Sprinkler fitter apprenticeship.
A sprinkler fitter lays out, hangs and connects the piping that a building depends on in the one situation it is never used for anything else. It is a trade learned on ladders, scaffolding and man lifts, on threading machines and welding rigs, on aerial lifts running overhead pipe and in trenches running it underground. We are hiring apprentices and experienced journeymen, minimum age 18.

What the apprenticeship actually is.
The apprenticeship runs on a nationally recognized curriculum of 19 courses, spread across a five-year path from apprentice to journeyman, through N.A.S.I. Local Union 669. The first six months are a probationary period. After that, every apprentice is reviewed every six months, not once a year, so a problem gets caught while it is still small and progress gets credited while it still means something.
Pay during the apprenticeship is set as a percentage of the journeyman wage rate, and it rises as the courses and the hours are completed. This is not entry-level work paid as though it were, and it is not a journeyman's wage from day one either. It is a structured climb, on a schedule the union sets and enforces, not one a single employer can shorten or stretch.

What the job is, physically.
Sprinkler fitting is not a desk trade. It means working from ladders and scaffolding and man lifts inside a building shell before the ceiling goes in, threading and cutting pipe on site, welding where the job calls for it, and running aerial lifts to place overhead branch lines. It also means trench work, where the same piping goes underground before the slab is poured. Both ends of the same system, both learned in the same apprenticeship.
